La Bulgarie cultive son titre de reine de la lavande mondiale

La Bulgarie est désormais le premier producteur mondial de Lavande, devant la France. Elle compte bien conserver ce titre.

Un parfum intense de lavande inonde la Vallée des Roses, au pied de la chaîne des Balkans: c'est le temps de la récolte en Bulgarie, pays qui devance désormais la France en tant que premier producteur mondial d'huile essentielle. Sofia mise sur la qualité pour conserver son trône.

En 2011, le pays le plus pauvre de l'Union européenne a exporté entre 55 et 60 tonnes d'huile essentielle de lavande, doublant sa production par rapport à 2010, affirment les principaux distillateurs bulgares qui disent avoir dépassé la France depuis deux ans déjà.

Dans son rapport 2011, la société française Elixens, productrice d'arômes et de parfums, confirme que la Bulgarie tenait le premier rang mondial l'an passé - avec 45 tonnes d'huile de lavande - contre 25-30 tonnes produites en France, les deux pays fournissant les trois quarts de la production internationale.

Une bactérie, le phytoplasme du Stolbur, a fait des ravages dans les champs du sud de la France. Selon le Crieppam (Centre régionalisé interprofessionnel d'expérimentation en plantes à parfum), le pays a perdu 50% de sa récolte en raison de ce fléau entre 2005 et 2010.

La Bulgarie a pris le relais. Désormais, entre 80% et 90% de l'huile essentielle de lavande bulgare est vendue en France, indique à l'AFP un distillateur de la région, Filip Lissitcharov. "Il ne pourrait pas y avoir plus grande reconnaissance de la qualité de nos huiles" et il est essentiel de la préserver "afin de rester en tête à long terme", estime-t-il.

Qualité vs rendement

Son entreprise familiale, Enio Bontchev Production, cultive sur 100 ha de la lavande organique certifiée près de Kazanlak, dans une vallée principalement connue pour l'huile de rose.

Conserver la qualité de l'huile de lavande bulgare préoccupe aussi un autre producteur, Plamen Stankovski, de la société Bulattars: "La qualité commence à souffrir en raison des efforts récents visant à atteindre un meilleur rendement", admet-il.

Plamen Stankovski désapprouve notamment la culture de certaines espèces de lavande non traditionnelles ou un recours à des semences non-certifiées.

"Le fait même que le descriptif +Essence de lavande bulgare+ commence à apparaître sur des produits cosmétiques comme un témoin de qualité signifie cependant que nous sommes sur la bonne voie", estime-t-il.

Dans les champs, les 180 ouvriers saisonniers de Filip Lissitcharov bravent la chaleur pour cueillir les délicates fleurs mauves autour de midi, quand la concentration d'huile essentielle atteint son maximum.

Elles sont ensuite écrasées au pied avant d'être distillées dans le village de Tarnitchane, un processus similaire à celui de la production de l'huile de rose, produit emblématique de la Bulgarie.

Cosmétique courante

Si cette dernière sert de base aux parfums de luxe, l'huile de lavande est un ingrédient de la cosmétique courante et peut facilement être supprimé de la composition des produits si les prix montent trop, craignent les distillateurs.

Un kilogramme d'huile de lavande était vendu "aux prix dangereusement élevés" de 90 à 100 euros en 2011 contre 15 à 30 euros il y a une dizaine d'années, selon Filip Lissitcharov, pour qui une fourchette entre 50 et 60 euros constituerait un prix raisonnable.

Face à la montée des prix, d'autres clients se rabattent sur l'huile de lavandin, moins chère, voire même des produits synthétiques de substitution, selon les distilleurs.

La production de lavande bulgare était bien plus élevée à l'époque communiste, avant 1990, quand le pays avait le marché captif du bloc soviétique. Actuellement, la Bulgarie exporte en France, mais aussi en Allemagne, aux Etats-Unis, en Suisse, en Autriche et au Japon.

Total va procéder à des forages d'exploration de gaz en Mer Noire bulgare

La société française Total a remporté un appel d'offres pour effectuer des forages d'exploration de gaz conventionnel en Mer Noire, au large de la Bulgarie, a annoncé jeudi le ministre bulgare de l'Économie et l'Énergie, Delyan Dobrev.

La meilleure offre a été présentée par la société Total qui travaillera avec (l'autrichien) OMV et (l'espagnol) Repsol, a déclaré le ministre devant des journalistes. Les entreprises américaine ExxonMobil et britannique Melrose Ressources étaient également candidates.

Les forages seront effectués à 100 km au large des ports de Bourgas et de Varna (est de la Bulgarie), sur une surface de 14.000 km2 et à une profondeur de 5.000 m sous le fond de la mer.

C'est notre grand espoir de diversification, car le potentiel qui existe au fond de la Mer Noire est important, selon toutes les analyses, a souligné Delyan Dobrev, rappelant qu'un grand gisement a déjà été découvert plus au nord, au large de la Roumanie.

Si les attentes autour de ce gisement se confirment, cela aidera dans les négociations avec la Russie sur le prix auquel la Bulgarie achète du gaz, a estimé le Premier ministre Boïko Borissov.

La Bulgarie, qui consomme environ 3 millions de m3 de gaz par an, dépend presque entièrement des livraisons de gaz russe et cherche à diversifier ses sources.

Melrose Ressources a exploité de 2004 à 2009 un gisement de gaz dans la Mer Noire, Galata, au niveau du port bulgare de Varna, qui est déjà épuisé et sera transformé en dépôt.

La société britannique continue les forages et l'exploitation de trois gisements voisins d'une capacité globale de 2,8 milliards m3.

La Bulgarie a interdit en janvier l'exploration et l'extraction des gaz et huile de schiste. Le Parlement a cependant autorisé à la mi-juin la technique de fracturation hydraulique de faible intensité pour des forages de gaz et de pétrole conventionnels.
